Our CL at Red House is situated by the River Thurne with views across the meadows to the picturesque Thurne Windpump and river and we’re ideally placed for exploring the Broads and wider countryside. You can walk off our site and onto a path leading up to the river where as well as all the usual boats you may see a Norfolk Wherry sailing by. You can fish from our riverbank which is adjacent to the site (50 metres) or day boats can be hired from Potter Heigham, 3 miles and Martham, 5 miles. We are happy to provide moorings for your boat which can be launched from the village slipway (donations), please enquire about mooring in advance. The area around our site at is ideal for cycling with quiet roads and byways and many small villages within cycling distance. There are many lovely walks, we are on the Weaver’s Way Long Distance Footpath and there several foot paths which follow along the river banks which is a great way to see the landscape and boats. The Broads is an internationally recognised area for wildlife and is home to many different species of birds varying throughout the year from Bearded tits to Bitterns in the summer and Cranes and short eared owls in the winter. There are several nature reserves close by including Hickling Broad, Horsey Mere, How Hill and Strumpshaw, all offer a great chance to see our special Broads wildlife; Swallowtail butterflies, Otter, Marsh harrier, Cranes, Bittern and Norfolk hawker dragonflies. There are lovely sandy beaches nearby at Horsey, Winterton, and Sea Palling, Seals with their pups can be seen at Horsey in the Autumn/Winter. Jewellery making workshops are available on site, using silver and gemstones you can learn how to make yourself a special necklace or pair of earrings.
