Linked to the former site ponds it attracts the same abundance of wildlife, rare water voles, ducks with chicks popping in and out of their houses, woodpeckers tapping, dragon flies hovering, swifts and swallows feeding on the wing. As evening falls the heavenly birdsong fills the air, visiting bats and hoot of the resident tawny soon ensues. Within 2 miles, a 'must visit' National Trust Gunby Hall and Gardens, a charming country house dated 1700, set in Victorian walled gardens. A 3 mile round robin walk leads you to the quaint old village of Burgh-le-Marsh. There you'll find a Post Office, butchers, coffee shop and bakers and well stocked late opening supermarket, also boasting an old windmill, alongside a fine dining restaurant, new pizza takeaway, a superb Chinese takeaway and Chippy and 5 pubs. From the site, half a mile up the lane, flag down the hourly bus to the metropolis of Skegness for all the fun of the fair. A little further on visit the hides and marshes of Gibralter Point Nature Reserve, be sure to lunch at the coffee shop! Take the bus the other way through the beautiful Lincolnshire wolds, walk the snipe dales, pop in for lunch at the George or the renowned Rachael's Cafe. Next stop Horncastle, another gem to visit.
